    University of Helsinki Music Research Laboratory (UHMRL) is a music research laboratory (originally a sound technical laboratory) founded in the academic year 1961–62. Lab’s focus areas are computational and computer-assisted music research, sound quality research, archeoacoustics, research on the interaction of music and technology, history and analysis of electroacoustic music, and research on electric instruments. In the music research laboratory, computational imaging methods for sound and music have been produced, workflows for the preservation of demanding cultural heritage material have been developed, and multi-channel sound field work equipment has been built. The laboratory works as part of Musicology in the Department of Philosophy, History and Art at the University of Helsinki's Faculty of Arts.
