The Doctoral Programme in Economics (DPE) belongs to the Doctoral School in Humanities and Social Sciences. The Programme's responsible faculty is the Faculty of Social Sciences and its home unit at the responsible faculty is the Department of Political and Economic Studies. The teaching takes place within the Finnish Doctoral Programme FDPE.

The DPE is organized according to the best international practices. It promotes doctoral education in economics by systematically providing courses and seminars based on a programme launched already in 1990.

In their first year, students take mandatory core courses in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics. In the second year, they choose between a large number of field-specific courses. The subsequent thesis work is supported by regular workshops in different subfields of economics. The thesis is an independent piece of work containing research contributions at an international level.

All teaching in the DPE takes place in English. The Programme's fresh doctors are well placed in international academic institutions, central banks, research institutes, government organizations, and in private sector. Information on the programme can be found at the webpage of Finnish Doctoral Programme in Economics FDPE.
