Organisationsprofil

The research focus of the L.A.R.P. group is on understanding the neural mechanisms of language processing and its acquisition. Our topics involve the neural basis of novel word learning, with specific emphasis on language morphology. In addition to native language learning, we address second language acquisition and the multilingual brain. We strive towards developing new experimental paradigms, with one branch of research focusing on the neural mechanisms of natural reading. Research methods involve eye-movement research, electro- and magnetoencephalography (MEEG), (functional) magnetic resonance imaging (f/MRI) as well as transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). Ongoing research projects involve close collaboration with Cognitive Brain Research Unit (Department of Psychology and Logopedics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki), Attention and Memory Research group (Department of Psychology and Logopedics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki), BioMag laboratory (Helsinki University Central Hospital), Center for Functionally Integrative Neuroscience (Aarhus University), Finnish Institute of Occupational Health as well as Pedagogical University Tyrol.
