My research focuses on natural resource politics, socio-environmental conflicts and climate change in Latin America.

In my doctoral research, I studied water conflicts and climate vulnerabilities in the Peruvian Andean region. At the moment I focus on the impacts of desalination on water governance and conflicts in Chile.

I teach courses related to natural resource governance, societal change and Latin American studies. Examples of taught courses: Environment & Politics (2024), Political ecology and natural resource politics (2023, 2021), Introduction to societal change (2022), Classics in Global Development Studies (2023).

I also write journalistic articles on environmental issues and Latin America. My articles have been published in Helsingin Sanomat, Turun Sanomat, Kansan Uutiset and Maailman Kuvalehti among others.

Between 2020-2023 I worked as editor-in-chief of popular science magazine Versus. I have also lectured on science communication in workshops organized by Versus and science journalism courses of University of Helsinki and Helsingin Sanomat. 

I have several years of experience on environmental questions and politics in Latin America. I have worked in research and development projects in Peru and in Guatemala. I have also attended academic conferences in Colombia, Cuba, Belize, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay.
