Research

I am a salaried doctoral researcher in interpreting and translation studies in the Doctoral Programme in Language Studies. I hold a BA in Translation and Interpreting from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) and an MSc in Interpreting from Heriot-Watt University.

My primary research interests lie in interpreting studies, sociolinguistics, interactional linguistics, the interpreter’s agency, and the sociological aspects surrounding interpreting practice. During my master's, I developed an interest in the potential impact gender-related issues might have on interpreter-mediated encounters, which inspired me to pursue a Ph.D. My article-based doctoral dissertation analyses the interpreter’s gender performance in public service interpreting, with a special focus on healthcare interpreting. In particular, I seek to identify how the interpreter's gender is constructed in interaction as well as the impact it has on communication.
