Visiting postdoctoral scholar with the Department of Philosophy, History and Art Studies at the University of Helsinki; postdoctoral research associate with the Centre for Privacy Studies at the University of Copenhagen; and chair of the Society for Court Studies-European Branch.

Neighbors has lectured and taught several undergraduate courses at the University of York from 2013 to 2018. He has also taught palaeographical skills and courses to graduate and undergraduate students from 2015-2019. Neighbors was appointed as a postdoctoral research assistant with Historical Royal Palaces (UK), working the pilot project "The Royal Progresses of Henry VIII". The research was the foundation for the successful AHRC funded network, "Henry VIII on Tour: Tudor Places and Royal Progresses", which Neighbors continues to serve as a consultant for the project. Between 2015-2020, Neighbors was Chief Layout Editor for the Royal Studies Journal (https://www.rsj.winchester.ac.uk); and currently serves as Administrator and Digital Content Officer of the Royal Studies Network.

As a historian of early modern British and northern European history, Neighbors specialises in the history of monarchy and court culture, with an emphasis on the performativity of gender, political culture, elite practices and activities (i.e. hunting), and crafting spectacles within the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
