Information om forskning och undervisning

Heidi Härkönen is a social and cultural anthropologist specialising on gender, kinship, care, love, health, well-being, digitalisation, Cuba and the Caribbean. She currently works as a Kone Foundation funded Post-Doctoral Researcher in Gender Studies on a project that explores Cuba's emerging digitalisation process through a focus on politics, values and everyday practices. In 2019-2020, she worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Gender Studies in an Academy of Finland funded project (2016-2020) that examined marginalised kinship relations in three countries; Finland, Russia and Cuba. In 2016-2019, she worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Social and Cultural Anthropology on an Academy of Finland funded project (2016-2019) that explored well-being, health and social change through a focus on ideas and practices of body, personhood and care in contemporary Cuba. She gained her Doctorate from the University of Helsinki in 2014. Heidi has been a visiting researcher at the City University of New York Graduate Center, the University of Amsterdam, the University of Havana and the University of Cambridge. Her research interests include gender, kinship, sexuality, life course, care, love, global health, well-being, socialism and post-socialism, body, personhood, digitalisation, social change and values.

Heidi has been teaching introductory anthropology courses and given invited lectures on gender, sexuality, kinship, masculinity and ethnographic fieldwork.
