Heikki Haara is a University Lecturer in Political History and the Director of the Bachelor's Programme in Society and Change in the Faculty of Social Sciences. He has previously been a visiting fellow at University of California, Berkeley, University of Oxford, and Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies. His research has primarily focused on early modern moral and political thought. He is currently the Director of the research project The Struggle for Human Rights in Finland, 1945–2020 (2025–2028, funded by the Kone Foundation).

He has published articles in journals such as the Journal of the History of Ideas, Political Theory, and British Journal for the History of Philosophy. He is the author of Pufendorf’s Theory of Sociability: Passions, Habits and Social Order (Springer, 2018) and the co-editor of several books. Additionally, he serves as the Co-editor in chief of the Journal of Modern Philosophy and the book series Helsinki Yearbook of Intellectual History (de Gruyter).
