My research addresses the role and mechanisms of gene regulatory changes in the evolution of adaptive life-history traits in Atlantic salmon. Previously I have worked on conifer trees, yeasts and stickleback fish to elucidate the genetic architecture and molecular mechanisms of adaptive evolution. Understanding the molecular basis of evolution in adaptive traits is a central goal in biology with both fundamental and applied importance. My long-term goal is that by dissecting evolutionary processes into their molecular and functional underpinnings we can gain insight into the mechanisms of adaptation that will help us to make informed decisions on conservation and natural resource use.
