Information om forskning och undervisning

Maria Salenius is Senior University Lecturer in British Literature and Docent of English Philology at the Department of Languages. Her primary research interests are topics related to language and religion in general, and the sermons and the sacred poetry of John Donne (1572–1631) in particular. Her other main research interests are the royal history of Medieval and Early Modern England and the texts that create that history. Theoretically, Maria Salenius works primarily with rhetoric, metaphors, and semantics. She has published on Donne’s poetry and prose as well as on Shakespeare, Marlowe, and Evelyn Waugh, and also on Pedagogy, and on Translation.

In addition to a variety of Early Modern/Renaissance topis within Philology and Literary Studies, Maria Salenius teaches literature survey courses as well as courses on Victorian literature and the development of the novel, and Text Analysis/Translation (English/Finnish/Swedish). She supervises research in all these topics.

Maria Salenius has contributed to the John Donne Society Digital Donne Project, http://donneprose.blogspot.com/, and she is Contributing Editor to The Variorum Edition of the Poetry of John Donne, vols. 4.3 (Songs and Sonnets) and 7.2 (Divine Poems). Maria Salenius is a member of the Editorial Board of the John Donne Journal, and she is Past President of the John Donne Society.

Maria Salenius is Director of the BA Programme of Languges at the Faculty of Arts, University of Helsinki.
