Dr Pasi Sihvonen is Director of Zoology Unit at the Finnish Museum of Natural History, University of Helsinki. His research focuses on systematics and biodiversity of geometrid moths globally, a megadiverse insect radiation of 24 000 species. His research is characterised by large-scale international projects that have a global view, and they often combine molecular and morphological data. He is one of the authors of landmark monograph series Geometrid Moths of Europe.

During 2005-2017 Sihvonen worked in several non-academic positions, including director, manager and expert positions at the University of Helsinki, Academy of Finland and the European Commission in research funding, research infrastructures, service development, professional development and research administration.

Sihvonen teaches on Insect diversity, Evolution of organisms, and Biological collections courses for biology students at the University of Helsinki.

Sihvonen advocates digitisation measures and techniques to provide open access to collections and related metadata, and promotes Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. https://orcid.org/0000-0003-2237-9325
