Information om forskning och undervisning

The main research topic of Prof. Suvi Stolt is language acquisition process during the childhood years in different populations such as prematurely born children. Her research on preterm chidlren's langauge development has been focused especially on the very early years of life, and on the matter of what the features of early language of very preterm children (born <32 gestational weeks) may tell about their later language development. Further, prof. Stolt has together with her research group adapted, validated and collected a norming sample for the Finnish short form versions of the MacArthur Communicative Development Inventories (CDI, FinCDI-SF). In this study (the FinCDI-SF Study), the language development of the children (N=84) has been followed from 8 months of age up to the age of 5 years, and the features of language development process (e.g. longitudinal predictive value of early language, stability in development, influence of background factors) during the childhood years will be analysed. Currently, Prof. Stolt is validating and collecting the norming sample for the Communicative Development Inventories III which is targeted for children aged between 2,6 and 4,0 years.
