My phd project in ethnology with the working title "Material-discursive entanglements of heteronormative places - a queer phenomenological study on micropolitics and feelings of belonging among LGBTQ identified people in Helsinki city" examines the importance of places and objects in relation to feelings of belonging among LGBTQ identified people in the context of Helsinki, Finland. With intersectional, affect and posthumanist perspectives combined with queer phenomenology the study aims at looking at how places and objects are normative, social and political. This will be done with qualitative methods by interviewing people that break the norms of heteronormativity where I am including intersecting identities and experiences of breaking other norms. I am also using visual ethnography and photographs of places and objects in my thesis.
