I graduated from the University of Helsinki with a PhD in Microbiology in 2017. My PhD research focused on the isolation and characterization of new archaeal viruses from high salinity environments. I have continued as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki and my current research focus is on the diversity of microbes, including viruses and predatory bacteria (BALOs), in Arctic soils. In addition, I have been studying virus-host interactions in sea ice. Resolving microbial dynamics in these environments, which are especially vulnerable to climate change, contributes to better understanding and prediction of microbial feedback responses to environmental changes. As work methods, I have been using both culture-dependent (isolation) and -independent (meta -omics) approaches. My research is funded by the Academy of Finland and the Kone Foundation.
