Academy of Finland: Solid-supported Pericyclic Reactions in Supercritical Fluids and Ionic Liquids

The project is aimed at studying various synthetically useful carbon-carbon bond-forming solid-supported pericyclic reactions both in supercritical fluids, and in ionic liquids. The results obtained from the supercritical reactions and the ones performed in ionic liquids will be compared to the results obtained from the corresponding liquid-phase reactions. One of the major objectives of this research project is to study and develop efficient methods and techniques that fulfill the requirements of the green chemistry.
The specific objectives of the research are (i) to compare the regio- and stereoselectivities, specificities and the general course of the solid-supported Diels-Alder reactions carried out in various organic solvents to the corresponding reactions carried out in supercritical carbon dioxide in collaboration with VTT Chemical Technology, (ii) to compare the regio- and stereoselectivities, specificities and the general course of solid-supported 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reactions carried out in various organic solvents to the corresponding reactions carried out in supercritical carbon dioxide in collaboration with VTT Chemical Technology, and (iii) to compare the results obtained from the solid-phase cycloaddition reactions to the corresponding ionic liquid reactions performed at the Department of Chemistry, University of Oulu.
