Beskrivning (abstrakt)

In today’s inclusive classrooms with students with diverse needs, co-teaching is a crucial and growing method of organizing instructional support. Co-teaching requires not only pedagogical but also interactional and attentional skills of the teachers. Intentional visual attention is an acknowledged factor of teacher profession. However, we know surprisingly little about situational practices of co-teaching and their impact on situational math instruction.

This pilot project will collect data in authentic co-taught elementary-school mathematics lessons. The data will include mobile eye-tracking recordings on co-teaching pairs and video recordings on the lesson activities and interactions. The main objective of this project is to pilot a new method to investigate co-teachers’ joint and shared visual attention to understand situational math instruction in co-taught elementary classrooms. The main goal of this pilot study is to develop an ecologically valid and ethically sustainable data collection setting and analysis protocol that can be implemented in future research projects.
