Nessling Foundation: Satellite-based monitoring of terrestrial water storage

Terrestrial water storage – ground water and soil moisture – is a scarce natural resource which is increasingly strained by climate change and human population increase. Accurate monitoring of terrestrial water is thus urgently needed for its better protection. A new satellite-based monitoring method will be developed here for obtaining consistent terrestrial water measurements over wide areas. The new approach is multi-disciplinary among space geodesy, meteorology, and terrestrial hydrology.
