Prof. Mauri Ahlberg's professorship includes both Biology Education and Sustainability Education. R&D of and for Sustainability Education is interdisciplinary.
The core of sustainable development is learning to use biodiversity sustainably. Accordingly this R&D Program has close links to NatureGate R&D Program and its focus on learning to identify species and ecosystems. Sustainable Development involves many complex problems that demand cumulative collaborative knowledge building of many experts. This is and has been one of research fields, as well as use of concept mapping, CmapTools and dialogue for truth, sustainability, good environment and good life. Paivi Immonen-Orpana and Arto Salonen have made research how to promote sustainability in their own work as university teachers.
