Russian lesbian samizdat in 1990s and its language as a source of building lesbian identities, communities and culture.

In the early 1990s in Russia, most of the media was censuring the topic of homosexuality and the internet just started developing. In such a situation published media materials were playing a crucial role in the forming of a community with shared knowledge. Common language terms would help LGBT people to identify as a part of this community. The lack of terminology for expressing the non-heteronormative sexualities pushed the development of LGB samizdat journals and bulletins.
Lesbian samizdat in the 1990s was a symbol of the freedom of information, reforms in identity policy and sexuality. I would like to analyze how the language and terms that were used in samizdat journals had been forming the language of lesbian culture and lesbian identity in the 1990s. How these journals influenced the building of discourse and lesbian agenda (and an LGBT agenda because of active influence of lesbians in LGBT activists ́ circles).
