Suomen kielen taito, vuorovaikutus ja monikielisyys päiväkodissa (Interaction and multilingualism in Finnish kindergartens)



The aim of this project is to explore language use and linguistic-interactional development of immigrant children in kindergartens, and to shed light on the interactional reality of multiethnic kindergartens. These questions will be approached by empirically analysing authentic interactional instances in a variety of activities in multiethnic kindergartens. By applying interactional analysis to linguistically asymmetric conversations where the less competent member is being socialized into the target language and culture, this study adopts a context-sensitive approach toward linguistic development, and thus responds to the calls put forward by many second language researchers.
