Taxonomic review of old vertebrate specimens at the Natural History Museum in Helsinki

Old scientific specimens of mammals and birds (and other vertebrates) in the collections of the Finnish Museum of Natural History in Helsinki were morphologically reviewed during June - August 2017. The purpose was to bring their taxonomy up to date, and to assign identities to previously unindentified/misidentified specimens. (This project was a continuation of similar research carried out in 2016.) Circa 500 individual vertebrate specimens were investigated. The project resulted in the addition of several "new" taxa to the Museum's collections.
