The aim of the project is to develop methods and instrumentation for detection and quantification of trace gases using terahertz spectroscopy. During the first stage of the project, a new source of frequency-tunable and coherent THz radiation is being developed. The source is based on a grating-stabilized continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator, previously developed by our group. The new THz source will be applied to terahertz spectroscopy. In addition, feasibility of using terahertz spectroscopy in medical diagnostics based on the analysis of human breath will be studied.
