The cultural politics of ‘peripheral’ livelihoods and locations in greater Beijing

This is an anthropological project, employing participant observation, mental mapping, semi-structured conversations and interviews. The locations of the fieldwork include (1) established Queer (LGBTQI) interests groups and community spaces in central Beijing, and (2) residents of a variety of socio-economic backgrounds in the outlying district of Tongzhou, greater Beijing. Field research trips to take place in February and June-July 2012.
