Sammanfattning
The article examines the metric repertoire of the Russian Symbolist poet Maximilian Voloshin, providing the first comprehensive synchronic and diachronic account of all the meters he used in his poetry. Considered in the context of early 20th-century Russian poetry, Voloshin’s metrical choices prove rather conservative, for the Modernist period. The analysis proposes a periodisation of Voloshin’s poetic legacy and shows how his evolving metrical preferences reflect broader changes in his artistic outlook, as evidenced by his notebooks, letters, and contemporary reception.
