Sammanfattning
The current socioeconomic framework requires additional concepts and emerging solutions to solve challenges such as limited energy supplies, global warming, food security, environmental conservation, and water quality as the world population grows. “Circular bioeconomy” is the potential solution proposed by global experts to address these complex, interconnected issues. This modern, sustainable model reduces the use of natural resources and the growth of waste, cutting carbon (greenhouse-gas) emissions in the atmosphere. The food industry and waste generation are unavoidable from farm to fork due to poor food management; proper waste management necessitates additional ecological issues. In this review, we discuss the alternative and effective utilisation of food waste for biomedical applications in support of the circular bioeconomy concepts, which also support the UN's Sustainability Development Goals. In addition, Smart Manufacturing, Industry 4.0, and Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) approaches should be implemented to minimise food waste at different food production levels.
