Sammanfattning
In this article (in Finnish), I examine the perceptions of representation in the narratives of the 1991-1995 oral history interviews of MPs in relation to the EU membership decision. I examine the topic by using empirical analysis, which is characteristic of historical research. I assess how the archetypes of representation presented by Laura Sudulich, Siim Trumm and Jack Bridgewater can be seen in the presented narratives of the MPs. The study shows that the narratives of representativeness as presented by the MPs afterwards are highly personal and often overlapping. The narratives contain references to the architypes of the representation, especially if the MP experienced a conflict with his/her own opinion, party and/or the view of his/her constituency in terms of decision-making. MPs own priorities and political pressures, such as party line and upcoming parliamentary elections, feature strongly in representatives' recollections of decision-making. The regional divisions and the centre-periphery divide that emerged in the EU referendum highlighted the importance of representational perceptions for MPs.
