Sammanfattning

This chapter examines the ethical aspects of researching the worldviews of children and young people in a diversified Finnish social context. We reflect on the development of traditional opinion research, driven by societal change, and address the specific challenges of research on religions, beliefs, and values through practical examples. With a particular focus on research on children and adolescents and minority communities, this chapter examines specific issues related to aspects of the research process and highlights ethical choices related to researcher position, research methodological choices, and research analysis and reporting. We also considered the potential impact of publishing a research report at the individual, community, and societal levels. Research on worldviews and the information it produces is always tied to the social context, time, and position of the researcher. Sensitivity to the meaning-making of children and young people on questions of religion and worldviews has become an integral part of the professionalism of those involved in education. In this chapter, we also emphasize the importance of this sensitivity in the fields of Finnish childhood and youth research.
