Sammanfattning

Forms of address are words and phrases used for addressing a collocutor. They include pronominal, nominal, and verbal forms of address and mark different types of interpersonal relationships, varying not only across different cultures but also across different social groups within a certain culture. After providing a brief historical survey on the development of different types of address this article discusses pronominal, nominal, and verbal forms of address and their variation in different social situations, and examines the pragmatic uses of nominal forms of address
