    Sammanfattning

Underemployment and unemployment are among the core reasons for moving abroad for several Filipinos. By sending remittances back home, they try to improve the livelihoods of their families left behind. Scholars have focussed on the use of remittances among the receivers in the migrant’s country of origin, as well as on the inclusion of migrants to the destination country. However, less attention has been given to supportive and encouraging features helping the migrants to stay separated from the family left behind. This paper aims to answer the question about what the mechanisms are for maintaining a reciprocal relationship in a transnational Filipino family extending from the Philippines to Finland. Attention is given to both remittances and the so-called reversed remittances in the creation of cohesion of a transnational family.
