"On the Tenderness of Men" takes the controversies around the construction of Temppeliaukio Church in Töölö during the time of the Nigerian-Biafran War as a starting point to ruminate on the role of architecture in inviting feelings of belonging. Past and present histories, temporalities and geographies fold into another collapsing time, place and identities narratively to consider the impact of atrocities on contemporary lifeworlds.
"On the Tendeness of Men” is an audio-visual essay shown as part of the FIX: Care & Repair exhibition at the Museum of Architecture and the Design Museum Helsinki (26.4.24 – 5.1.25). It articulates the theoretical framework and political dimensions of polycentric narration showing how knowledge production can be made possible by artistic research which challenges conventional approaches and methods of scientific inquiry.
