The Precambrian geomagnetic field plays a key role in various aspects of Earth Sciences, most prominently in studies of the development of the core, associated geodynamo processes, thermal history and paleogeography of our planet. Here we provide an overview of its content and time variations using data from “PALEOMAGIA”, a new open-access resource of Precambrian paleomagnetic information. Having applied inclination frequency analysis, reversal asymmetries and frequencies, intensity data and relative contributions of symmetric
and antisymmetric field families, we have concluded that the Precambrian geomagnetic field was close to that expected from the GAD (Geocentric Axial Dipole) model, with the smallest departure in the Neoarchean.
