Sammanfattning
This paper analyses the problem that had arisen during the reign of Philip II concerning the leadership of the shipbuilders of the war galley factory of Barcelona. In full swing in the war against Muslims for the control of the Mediterranean, the king –at the request of his captains– decided to bet on the Genoese style galleys to the detriment of Catalan style. This issue –along with other factors– caused a conflict in the shipyard, which increased as the Mediterranean scenario lost priority as the Hispanic Monarchy concentrated its forces and resources in the Atlantic.
