Sammanfattning

The article extends the theme of the pro gradu work of comparative literature from Marguerite Duras's novel Le Vice-consul towards a dissertation on her India Cycle. This is why te beggarwoman's wandering is compared to the faith of a European woman, Lol V. Stein. These women suffer from abandonment but try to solve their traumas in opposite ways, which tackles the problem of poverty in colonised countries. What makes the beggarwoman's embedded story controversial depends on the construction of its narrator, a European white male writer.
