In this thesis, we investigated the comorbidities and clinical manifestations of bullous pemphigoid (BP) and pemphigus, and the validity of BP diagnosis codes in electronic health records (EHRs). In the first study, we studied the comorbidities of 70 patients diagnosed with BP. Of the patients 51% were males, and the mean age was 77.1 years at diagnosis. Hypertension (44%) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (34%) were the most prevalent comorbidities at the time of BP diagnosis and 46% had a neurological diagnosis.
