Sammanfattning
The article first reports the main results of the international project Styles of Persuasion in Europe, which was coordinated at the University of Helsinki from 2011 to 2020. Within the framework of this project, the Helsinki commentary corpus was compiled, and five edited volumes and several other papers were published.
In the second part, the initial considerations for the follow-up project European TV-News Cultures are presented, which will deal with media cultures in the field of TV news shows in European countries. This project will also study the influence of the news shows' distribution via mobile devices, and of their remediatisation in the so-called social media, on different kinds of news presentation. It brings together communication scholars and media linguists from 14 European countries. They will contrastively analyse the journalistic culture of news broadcasts – on a macro level (media studies) and a micro level (media linguistics). As an example of a media-linguistic perspective, the article ends with a comparison of the text types in the main news programmes of the public television stations in Germany (ARD and ZDF) and Finland (Yle).
